Full description
SARACEN® changes the rules of kitchen knife ergonomics. Its specially developed construction, with a forward-shifted center of gravity and an ergonomic handle whose design is protected by patent offices as a globally valid industrial design, reduces cutting effort—the pressure on the blade is applied perpendicularly rather than at an angle, making cutting easier and more precise. The recommended grip is with your thumb or index finger resting against the handle’s beak. The saber-shaped blade made from premium Damascus steel further facilitates smooth slicing, and the handle is shaped so your knuckles do not hit the cutting board.
The SARACEN® concept was designed by Czech engineers: the forward-shifted center of gravity, handle shape, and blade curvature are the result of Czech development, not a copy of an established knife design. The blade is forged from premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, giving it a distinctive wavy pattern and a good balance of hardness and toughness. The edge stays sharp longer, but requires somewhat more careful handling than ordinary stainless steel.
Why SARACEN®?
- Original Czech concept, not a licensed copy of an established design
- Design protected as an industrial design, with a forward-shifted center of gravity that changes the rules of ergonomics and reduces cutting effort
- Saber-shaped blade, razor-sharp, for smooth slicing
- Polished birch handle, shaped to protect your knuckles
- Blade made from premium Damascus steel, 67 layers, hardness 60 ± 2 HRC
- 20° blade angle, so it stays sharp for a long time and is easy to resharpen
Standard or Black Diamond?
Standard lets the natural pattern of Damascus steel stand out. Black Diamond also features a surface treated with DLC (diamond-like carbon) technology, which increases hardness, reduces friction while cutting, and gives the blade a dark, almost black sheen.
Which blade length is right for you?
- 220 mm: compact and lightweight, for delicate work with meat, vegetables, and fish.
- 245 mm: a well-balanced, versatile knife for smooth cuts in home and professional kitchens.
- 265 mm: long and sturdy, for larger cuts of meat and fish, with a secure grip even during extended use.
Frequently asked questions
How should you hold the SARACEN® knife?
The recommended grip is with your thumb or index finger resting against the handle’s protrusion. Combined with the forward-shifted balance point, this gives you the most precise cut with the least effort.
How should you care for your SARACEN® knife?
Hand-wash only and dry immediately with a soft cloth. Do not put it in the dishwasher or expose it to harsh cleaning products or acids, as Damascus steel is more sensitive than regular stainless steel.
What is the difference between Standard and Black Diamond?
DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) is a thin layer of amorphous carbon with properties similar to diamond. It is exceptionally hard, has low friction, and is highly wear-resistant.
Which SARACEN® knife blade length should you choose?
220 mm is the lightest and most maneuverable option for delicate work. 245 mm is the all-purpose choice for everyday cooking. 265 mm can handle larger cuts of meat or fish.
What is the SARACEN® blade made of?
Made from premium Damascus steel, with 67 layers, a hardness of 60 ± 2 HRC, and a 20° edge angle. This combination keeps the edge sharp for a long time while also making it easy to sharpen.
What is protected on the SARACEN® knife?
The balance point is shifted forward to the center of the knife instead of behind the handle, as with traditional knives. The design is protected worldwide by patent offices as an industrial design. This construction changes the rules of ergonomics and reduces the effort required to cut: it lets you apply pressure to the blade perpendicularly rather than at an angle, so you cut more precisely.
The SARACEN® knife is designed in Czechia so that the balance point, handle shape, and saber-style blade work together, rather than as three separate features in a product description. You’ll notice it in your hand within the first minute of cutting.
